Roman Foodprints at Berenike: Archaeobotanical Evidence of Subsistence and Trade in the Eastern Desert of Egypt

During the Graeco-Roman period, Berenike served as a gateway to the outside world together with Myos Hormos. Commodities were imported from Africa south of the Sahara, Arabia, and India into the Greek and Roman Empire, the importance of both harbors evidenced by several contemporary sources. Between 1994 and 2002, eight excavation seasons were conducted at Berenike by the University of Delaware and Leiden University, the Netherlands.

Chinese Archaeological Abstracts 4 completes the account of what transpired during the decade of Chinese archaeology from 1972 to 1981. A compilation of abstracts of over 140 articles appearing in Wenwu and Kaogu during this period, it describes excavations ranging from Six Dynasties through Post-Tang. Examples of the wide variety of archaeological investigations covered include Jin and Southern Dynasty tombs at Machang and Yixamg, Northern Wei lacquer screen painting and embroideries, and changes in the plan of the old city of Beijing.

Chinese Archaeological Abstracts 3 continues the account of what transpired during the decade of Chinese archaeology from 1972 to 1981. Containing absracts of over 130 articles appearing in Wenwu and Kaogu during this period, it is arranged in chronological order and describes excavations ranging from Eastern Zhou, Chunqin, and Warring States through Qin-Han. These abstracts cover a wide scope of studies, including excavations at the imperials city of the Chu at Yicheng, Han silk painting, and tombs of the Cao Cao lineage in Bo County.
