| 30 Years of
Discovery 1973/74-2003/04 |
The Cotsen Institute of Archaeology was created in July, 1973.
Over 2003-2004, the Cotsen Institute celebrated 30 years of
discovery with a series of lectures by Cotsen scholars, academic
conferences, receptions, and historical notes in Backdirt
throughout 2003-2004. The Cotsen Institute also will initiate
a fundraising campaign for continued support of archaeological
research, graduate education, and scholarly publications.
The year-long celebration culminated in a
reception on May 27, 2004, organized in honor of the Cotsen
Institute by the UCLA College of Letters and Sciences.
Our thanks to the College, particularly Dean Scott Waugh and the
Development Office: Steve Jennings, Jackie Miller, Libby Rogers,
Ann Turnock, and Judy Stangler.
To close our year-long celebration of the 30th anniversary of
the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology, the UCLA College of Letters
and Sciences hosted a wonderful reception on the terrace of the
Fowler Museum. Approximately 250 people connected with the Cotsen
Institute attended – current and former faculty, students, staff,
supporters such as members of the Director’s Council and Friends
of Archaeology members, and University administrators. In addition
to delicious food and music, guests were treated to reminiscences
and visions of the future by Dean Scott Waugh and Cotsen Director
Chip Stanish. James Sackett was awarded the Trowel,
the highest honor of the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology, for his contributions
as a scholar, a former Director, and the continuing Chair of the
Executive Committee |
