Research Summary

PROJECT: My ongoing research focuses on the influence of food preparation technology on the development of complex societies in Central Mexico.Specifically, by conducting artifact attribute, geochemical, and spatial analyses of maize grinding tools (manos and metates) from Teotihuacan, Otumba, and other pre-Hispanic urban sites, I am studying how the production, exchange, consumption, and use of these tools was related to the formation of markets, the development of specialization in both craft production and food preparation, residential organization, and household status symbolism.
