This talk brings to the fore the critical role of exotic imports in the social and political development of late Prepalatial Crete (ca. 2500-1900 B.C.). Specifically, it explores the ways in which Eastern imports, including raw materials, finished products, iconography, and technologies, were used, often as bodily adornment, in the creation and continued negotiation of social identities in the period preceding the first Minoan palaces.
