Excavating Mocollope, a Gallinazo and Moche Center, on Peru's North Coast

THE 1998 FIELD SEASON OF THE ONGOING CHICAMA VALLEY ARCHAEOLOGICAL Research Project focused on excavations at the site of Mocollope, a large civic ceremonial site located in the Chicama Valley on the north coast of Peru. The central precinct of the site is dominated by a series of stone and mud brick mounds and platforms constructed at the base of Cerro Mocollope, a mountain located in the center of the broad flat alluvial plain of the lower Chicama Valley.
