New Assistant Director is Julia L. J. Sanchez As Acting Assistant Director, a ten-month position continuing until September 2000, Sanchez will assist the Director in organizing the running of day-to-day activities of the entire Cotsen Institute and will help facilitate the internal review of all the Institutes units. She received her Ph.D. in Anthropology in 1997 from UCLA. She has conducted field research throughout the Southwestern US and Mesoamerica. She is the director of the Maya Monument Project, which studies art and social organization among the ancient Maya. Sanchez is writing a book on recent theoretical developments in archaeology entitled Postprocessual Theory in Archaeology to be published by Plenum. | ||

Phillip Kwan is new Management Services Officer In June, Phillip Kwan joined the Cotsen Institute as the new Management Services Officer responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Institute. Phillip comes to the Cotsen Institute from Capital Programs where he spent the past ten years as a Budget Analyst and Financial Manager. He particularly enjoys the daily contacts with faculty and staff associated with his new post because of his interest in archaeology. | ||
